Kurdish Flag: A Symbol of Kurdish Identity

History

The Kurdish flag, first hoisted in 1946, has served as the primary symbol of Kurdish identity.

National Flag Design

The National Flag of Kurdistan features a tricolor field with a central emblem. It was adopted in 1946 by the Kurdish Republic of Mahabad, a short-lived Kurdish state.

The flag consists of three horizontal stripes: red, white, and green. The red stripe represents the blood of Kurdish martyrs, the white stripe represents peace and equality, and the green stripe represents the land and nature.

Significance

The Kurdish flag has played a significant role in Kurdish history and has become an emblem of Kurdish self-determination and aspiration for a unified and independent Kurdish nation.
