Jamaica's football team has qualified for the FIFA World Cup after defeating Costa Rica on penalties in an intercontinental playoff.

The Reggae Boyz secured their spot in Qatar with a 1-1 draw in regulation time, followed by a 4-2 penalty shootout victory.

Jamaica's qualification marks the country's first appearance at the World Cup since 1998.

Jamaica's Road to the World Cup

Jamaica's journey to the World Cup began in the first round of CONCACAF qualifying, where they finished second in their group behind Mexico.

In the second round, the Reggae Boyz finished third in their group, behind the United States and Costa Rica.

Jamaica then advanced to the intercontinental playoff, where they faced Costa Rica in a one-leg match.

Dramatic Penalty Shootout

The intercontinental playoff was a tense affair, with both teams having chances to win in regulation time.

Jamaica took the lead in the 66th minute through a goal from Andre Gray, but Costa Rica equalized in the 88th minute through a goal from Joel Campbell.

The match went to penalties, where Jamaica prevailed 4-2.

Jamaica's World Cup Group

Jamaica has been drawn into Group H for the World Cup, alongside Portugal, Uruguay, and Ghana.

The Reggae Boyz will face Portugal in their opening match on November 24th.

Jamaica will then face Uruguay on November 28th and Ghana on December 2nd.
