Im Dying I Need Help Survivors Of Deadly Knife Fight At St Laurent Mall Testify As Crown Closes Its Case

'I'm dying. I need help.' Survivors of deadly knife fight at St. Laurent mall testify as Crown closes its case

Two survivors of a deadly knife fight at a St. Laurent mall testified Tuesday

The Crown closed its case Tuesday in the second-degree murder trial of a man accused of killing one person and injuring two others in a knife fight at a St. Laurent mall in 2021.

The trial heard from two survivors of the attack, who described the chaotic scene and the fear they felt for their lives.

The first survivor, a 21-year-old man, testified that he was sitting in the food court when he saw the accused, Abdirahman Abdi, approach a group of people and start arguing with them.

He said Abdi then pulled out a knife and started stabbing the victims.

The witness said he tried to intervene, but Abdi turned on him and stabbed him in the chest.

The second survivor, a 19-year-old woman, testified that she was walking through the mall when she saw the fight break out.

She said she tried to run away, but Abdi chased after her and stabbed her in the back.

Both survivors were taken to hospital with serious injuries, but they have since recovered.

In his closing arguments, the Crown attorney said that the evidence presented at trial proves beyond a reasonable doubt that Abdi is guilty of second-degree murder.

He said Abdi intended to kill the victims when he stabbed them, and that he showed no mercy.

The defense attorney is expected to present his closing arguments on Wednesday.

The trial is scheduled to continue this week.
